Nouveau Casino...(15/2)

After the cancellation of the gig in December, I got a chance to see the live of Calla at Nouveau Casino tonight...The venue is located at a chic area near Bastille, and unlike other major concert venue, Nouveau Casino appears to be a pub-like venue matched with a stage for gigs and live performance. There is a bar table not far away from the stage, and people can also sit on the mezzanine floor for a drink and a chat. The atmosphere of the venue reminds me a bit the Fringe Club in Hong Kong. The place is very cozy and is suitable for a show with 300 audiences. Another interesting feature in Nouveau Casino is the installation of the prismatic ceiling design. That's quite cool! The show tonight commenced by the supporting act from New York named the Double, and well, I would say this group still needs some more live practice. Though combining some good elements from the sentiment of the Doors, Joy Division or some moment of prog rock in their songs, the overall arrangement of their works are yet mature and smooth. The vocal of the group, however, has a strong character like the one of the Interpol. A fellower of the New York punk-rock that prevails in the recent years.
The part for Calla was much more interesting. Apparently, the band is known by quite some French and the American who reside in Paris. The group did play an excellent gig, and I must admit that their live performance is really fantastic! Mature and veteran skill and music control, Calla put the stage a high in the 1.5hr. The percussion of Wayne B was magnificent, and he beated up the sound of the group. Valle's guitar and vocal was spiritual and influential as well. He looked much more stylish and attracting on stage than on photos and texts. Feeling the charisma of the band on stage, it is questionable why and how the group has been under-recognised. The night is one of the best concerts I have seen recently.
