Numeration...(5/1)

The by-product of the digital world, being the numeric interpretation of things and feelings in the world, is the current jargon of the cinematography...People are more conscious or receptive to numbers as a conversion to their expression as well as interpretation to expression. There are counting days of the post-disastrous era in I am Legend, a symbolic record of the length of life and meaning of life. The sensation of Elizabeth is measured in miles from New York, the city where she dragged on for ages, in My Blueberry Nights. The distance is of no meaning, but it was the tone of Ry Cooder. The decreasing number of population in Aliens Vs Predator 2 is another symptom of numeration for the battle of species. Audience can easily be fed with the dualistic analysis of to be and not to be, in numeric terms. Human cognition is suppressed with the simplified calculation of recognisable measurement of nature. We are content, and at the same time, we learn only how to weigh the substance in an undigested way. Human intelligence, fading.

Affiche de Festival de Cannes...(7/5)

The festival makes use of a shot of 'In The Mood for Love' of Wong Kar Wai as the official poster in 2006...This appears to be a bit outdated in a sense that the film has already been released for years and that the Cultural Year of China in France was over last year. It is only that Wong Kar Wai has assumed the role as the president of the jury panel that his poster might as a result been on for the festival. The image the organiser selected is a silhouette of Maggie Cheung on a cherish staircase in the film. The mood would be an art form of the films from Hong Kong (or better China?!) which the French people adore according to my understanding. This is equally symbolic when compared with the red lanterns or the harvesting red sorghum of Zhang Yi Mou. Actually the poster also recalls me the colour when Monica Bellucci walked in the subway in the film 'Irreversible'. When I was going back to work today, I saw the red light of the elevator staring at me with a mood for love, and I see this same beauty that the colour simply brings mania to the Western world with passion of where the Dragon is awaking.

Eros...(7/8)

Three short stories about "eros" by Michelangelo Antonioni, Steven Soderbergh and Wong Kar-Wai...A side project by the three directors, and without much surprise, they have produced their own piece of short film with their usual shots and style. Antonioni expresses his eros with the same formula in his "Beyond the Clouds". A sense of love in an unfaithful but realistic story. His love is filled with sweat. A plain story and yet inspiring work...
Soderbergh produced, instead, a comedy-like ero film and made use of his favourite black and white scene in his short film to examine the expression of desire in dreams. A nice reflex of the balance of reality and virtuality.
Wong, at last, produced his mood of love with Zhang Cheng and Gong Li and his love story is always tragic but eternal. A love of an observer and a love of time. Perhaps this is love that will last, together with the Chinese fashion show in the film. A good piece...(B-)
