There is a photography exhibition at the Museee des Arts Decoratifs at the moment for the works of Jean Lariviere. Looking at his works is an interesting experience...My first impression to his photos was that the kind of photos would be too exeragating. There would not be such kind of effort to film a photo like these, especially when the computer editing technology can be so advanced now. Seeing a old-fashioned airplane flying on the dessert or a magnifying high heel shoe in front of the Tour Eiffel for Charles Jourdan are like jokes and all for me. However, when you look further at his works, there is something more than just a kind of financially funded photography skill. Lariviere did a few of the campaign works for Louis Vuitton, and the photos produced for "les jouets" in 1996 are gorgeous. There are special design and arrangement of the set up of the photo; clean and calm atmospshere and the kind of playing lifestyle for the theme of the campaign. I found that there is something more about his work, and photography is really a kind of artform that deserves a better respect than just a component in the overwhelming advertising campaign everywhere. Some works can be found at http://www.ucad.fr/fr/03museepublicite/lariviere/page02.html.
