Embankment by Rachel Whiteread...(23/12)

There is currently an exhibition featuring the installation of Rachel Whiteread at the Tate Modern Museum in London...The work, named "embankment", is a labyrinth-like space comprising about 14,000 cartons painted in white. It is simply like blocks of white sugar accumulating on the floor, an interesting but not much creative idea. Reviewing the previous works of the sculptor, she likes to use the white mould in her work. Her idea is much lively, and the topics relate to the daily life. However, this is not really great for me, and all in all, the relatively large scale of this "embankment" installation amuses me the space and perspective in the once-upon-a-time-factory-building modern museum. The Tate shop and library are another two attractive features which I did not really have managed to stay and read during my visit.

By the way, the website of the museum is quite an informative one and there is brief description of the collections it keeps at the moment. A good resource for reference: http://www.tate.org.uk/modern
