There are clustered whisky distilleries in the area of Speyside in Scotland, and among the numerous manufacturers, Glenfiddich should be one of the most famous distilleries... Unlike the last visit at Moet et Chandon in Epernay, this whisky house is fully, and nicely, equipped with visitor-friendly set up. A tour commenced with a video presentation of Glenfiddich. The film would give you an idea how the taste of whisky is different from that of a champagne. The style of the Glenfiddich's film is like watching Hollywood's Pearl Harbour or perhaps Oliver Twist (well, much looking forward to the new works of Polanski...), it contains an atmosphere of a darker and harder sentiment and this is exactly the reflection of a taste of whisky that brings people a kind of bitterness and depth. All in all, a champagne is for a celebration and carnival, and it is not surprising to view a more content and colourful film in Moet et Chandon. The film production of Glenfiddich is quite commercial though. Comparing it with the film I saw in Moet et Chandon, Glenfiddich's possesses a strong impression of the UK/US way of marketing, while Moet et Chandon is proud of its French style of artistic enjoyable of life. An enlightenment of the French new wave movement has influenced the film, and therefore you know what is meant by 'c'est la vie!'. This is always the Q mark for French champagne.
The standard Glenfiddich is of 12, 15, 18, 21 & 30 years old. Together with other whisky brands in the regions, the Scottish is proud of their use of the originated Highland water for the production of the spirits (in the case of Glenfiddich the spring water from Robbie Dhu). Because of the long duration for whisky maturation, the spirit contains its spirit in every taste. Quoted the 'Angels' Share', their view of the natural evaporation of alcohol before completing the distillery process is quite a Taoistic way of thinking.
Again, I got a chance to enrich my collection with a bottle of EU-editioned spirit, and when I got back to Paris, I found that the whisky has actually quite significant local publicity which I have never noticed.
