The Island...(18/8)

Where will be the island? Does it exist? This is the future world of Michael Bay, in 2019...A world with generations of clone and his world is a scenario quite similar to the story of AI by Spielberg years before. Both are about a story of the clone, and a journey of searching the identity, but watch out, this is a trip with much hurry and actions. Evan McGregor and Scarlett Johansson play well, and they run quick too. There are explosive scenes of non-stop chasing from city streets and highways, from the facade of the skyscraper to the underground, and this depicts well their status of being a to-be-found fugitive perhaps. However, something wrong with the film is that there has not been much demonstration about the future world in the film, yes, there are hanging train system in the city, and the mouse changes to an appearance of a prism, but it lacks a depth...the 2-hour film is dominated by actions, and the change of mental state for the clones and their perception to the real world are not developed. Of course, I get used to for long time the logic of the nowadays Hollywood film, and so I find no problem seeing no consequence of serious gun shooting on the street or crashing through a high building, uselessness of the police force in LA or slump of florescent structure outside the building facade. I am okay too why the truck driver did not really stop the truck even as all the loadings had been dropped onto the highway. The clones were so free too marching out their utopia to the real world. Weren't they afraid of being contaminated at the moment? After all, I am still fond of this kind of futuristic film blindnessly...yet, I think that AI is much better than this one. The very ironic scene in this film is when the two Lincolns claimed oneself the real one, and this, alike the dramatic element of Face Off, sadly demonstrates how a clone (who know nothing about the real world at first) would acquire one's ability like the Darwinian thoery to kill the real human and get a chance to be alive. A bit cruel indeed. The last point about the film, needless to say, is its generosity to provide attentions for marketing and advertisement. This is very successful!!(B-)
