Chief Executive of Hong Kong talked about approach of media in a public speech at the Foreign Correspondence Club yesterday in Hong Kong...
The view of CE on how the attitude of media should be set is interesting. He talked about news favourable to the image of Hong Kong and the unfavourable one for the city. He quoted the number of news overseas media have been covered for Hong Kong last year...(what a figure!!) Some inspiring thought is how should we judge the neutrality of media coverage? Or should we consider if a media coverage should not be neutral indeed? It's true that I do have a perception of what the news media are more hunger of would be those exaggerated scenes or disguising news happened in the scene. The impact of Apple Daily since the mid-90s is obvious. Well, the always debatable issue in town is the independence of news media versus the conduct of news media...
In this same week, the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) conducted a press conference where a forecast was made on the Hong Kong export market trend in the second half of 2005. See below the extract of the media coverage of two locally circulated newspapers, Apple Daily and China Daily. A totally different picture on the same coverage. So what do you think?
Apple Daily........................... China Daily.................................
